| Looking the State of Gujarat, various industrial establishments like Indian Petrochemical Complex, Gujarat Refinery, G.A.C.L., Petrofils, Gujarat State Fertilisers Plants and other Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals came up in the vicinity of Baroda City. New townships were created. The impact of this urban proliferation was considerable in changing the rural landscape nearby. As a result of the establishment of these industries; the scope for establishing subsidiary industries has greatly increased. These industries have simultaneously helped in expanding the employment opportunities for the people. The Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (G.I.D.C.) has in its own way contributed to the urban sprawl of Baroda. In 1967, the mega - Nandesari Chemical industrial zone was set up just a few kilometres to the north. Another cluster of industrial estate in Makarpura, the establishments of G.C..E.L, O.N.G.C., Asea Brown Boveri, Baroda Dairy, the Western Railway Offices, the civil lines and other industrial estates have pushed the growth of Baroda towards the south.
